Iodine 131 Treatment

At the Vets have a dedicated I131 ward to treat hyperthyroid cats

We’re dedicated to providing advanced and compassionate care for your feline companions. One of the remarkable treatments we offer is radioactive iodine (I131) therapy – a highly effective solution for managing hyperthyroidism in cats.

Hyperthyroidism is a common condition in older cats that causes an overproduction of thyroid hormones. Left untreated, it can lead to serious health issues. I131 is a non-invasive and highly successful treatment that involves a single injection of radioactive iodine. This targeted therapy selectively destroys overactive thyroid tissue while preserving healthy thyroid function. This treatment is known for its remarkable success rates, often curing hyperthyroidism in a single treatment. It eliminates the need for daily medication and its associated side effects, offering a more permanent and stress-free solution for both you and your cat.

As your cat will usually be with us for a 7 day stay after treatment, our experienced team ensures that they receive the best care throughout the treatment, with a focus on safety and comfort.

Our vet Helen can give you more information on whether this is a safe option for your cat.
