Merry Christmas!
It’s that crazy time of year again, and we bring to your attention the Christmas hazards that your pet may encounter, from rich foods and turkey bones, to certain festive plants that can be poisonous to pets.

In this month’s newsletter, read about Becky’s experience in Tonga as a veterinary nurse for South Pacific Animal Welfare (SPAW). We also have an interesting story about a Burmese cat ‘Fitzwilliam’ who has an eating obsession with an everyday object, which led to major surgery.

Our clinic is proud to announce that we are now licenced to perform Radioactive Iodine Treatment for cats with Hyperthyroidism. On our first round, we have successfully treated 2 cats, ‘Myfanwy’ and ‘Tane’ and hope to treat many more! ‘Myfanwy’s story will tell you more about what is involved when your cat undergoes Radioactive Iodine Treatment.

Dog bite wounds from fights or playfights are a common occurrence, and Basil suffered from a very nasty bite on his leg a couple of months ago. Read about Basil’s surgery and subsequent healing process.

This month, we start with the life story of Hudson, a 15 year old Siamese cat who is a regular VIP at our clinic. Next is an article on young Chester who has eaten his share of socks and stones in a short 3 months.
With the warmer weather, a lot of people are now thinking about preventing fleas, and what products to use. Bravecto is a beef flavoured tablet that will kill fleas for up to 12 weeks, so you only have to remember to give the treatment at each change of season.
We are very proud of our nurse Becky for winning a competition to Tonga to help animals in need, she will be off to Tonga at the end of September, so keep an eye out for further news on her exciting experience.
Good news, Charlie the little Cashmere Lop has been re-homed successfully.

We’ve been busy furthering our education over the last couple of months. Heather attended the World Dermatology Conference in France, and our nurses Becky and Caitlyn have been attending puppy behaviour and training classes once a week at Kuri dog training school in order to bring more knowledge and skills to the puppy preschool classes held at our clinic. Nurse Zoe also recently finished a 4 week course on IV fluid therapy.

It’s been a very busy month with quite a number of dogs who have eaten bones and then needing surgery to help remove the obstruction(s) from their intestines. No bones are safe in our opinion. Read Katie’s story of what happened when she ate a large cooked pork hock.
Next is Hunter’s story, who started off as a stray kitten with pretty bad ringworm.
Then, we revisit Jen to see how her ears have healed a few months after surgery to remove the tips due to cancer.
We have sad news this month, as we will be saying Goodbye to our vet Veronika who has been with us for 5 years. She has written a lovely Farewell message for all her clients.
